Maker Faire.

Maker Faire

Maker Faire inspires, educates, and entertains curious and creative learners of all ages. Maker Faire celebrates arts, crafts, engineering, green design, music, science and technology and brings together communities who embrace the DIY (do-it-yourself) spirit. The second Bay Area Maker Faire (in May 2007) attracted over 45,000 people and featured 500 Makers. This family-friendly, two-day event with bicycles, crafts, recycled art, rockets, robots, and more is put on by O'Reilly Media, a highly regarded technical media publisher based in Sebastopol which publishes Make and Craft Magazines and sponsors the annual Web 2.0 Conference.

In the past, we have had many youth at the Faire, both as exhibitors and attendees, and this year we are excited to premiere three new offerings in which teachers and students, and homeschoolers may come to the Faire to build, craft, hack, play, and make.

New Special Preview for Students: Education Day on Friday, May 2nd, 2008
(must sign up in advance to attend)

Education Day was originally designed for school groups as a free event, but the Maker Faire has agreed to set up a way to include homeschoolers. I have worked out a plan to ensure that homeschoolers and the Maker Faire both have a good experience. To eliminate the problem of no shows, there will be a charge of $3 per child payable via PayPal by April 25th, 2008. This cost will cover administrative cost and PayPal fees; the remainder will be donated to the Maker Faire to support other educational outreach.

Where: Meeting place to be given upon registration.

Time: Homeschoolers may choose from two time slots:

Registration no longer being accepted for this event.
